British pop star Charli XCX is getting dragged for her response to Green Day being chosen as the Saturday night headliner at Coachella over her. At Coachella afterparties on Saturday night, the “brat” singer was seen wearing a sash that read “Miss Should Be Headliner.”
Our very own writer Grayson Weir perfectly summarized the situation between Charli XCX and Green Day at Coachella over the weekend, so I’ll let him recap you before we get into the developments surrounding Charli XCX’s, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, controversial outfit choice:
“There were some mixed reactions when Green Day was first announced as the Saturday night headliner at Coachella over Charli xcx. Some people thought the legendary punk rock band is too washed up to draw a crowd compared to the hyperpop artist. The haters were entirely wrong. It was packed.”
“When the highly-publicized music festival announced its lineup back in November, a large number of people who fell on the younger side of that median were disappointed. They don’t know Green Day like that. They thought Charli xcx is more ‘with the times,’ if you will. There was no way a band made up of 50-year-olds would draw a large crowd of the young 20-somethings. It was going to be a total flop. That was not the case! The crowd was absolutely massive.”
Charli XCX, however, clearly still believed she deserved to be the Saturday-night headliner with her after-party outfit, which has gone viral on social media and is also featured on the 32-year-old’s Instagram page (both photographs were likely taken by professional photographers, the most litigous bunch in media, so we can’t embed the photos here, just click the hyperlinks to see them).
The reaction to her outfit choice has been pretty uniform on social media, with many music fans dunking on her ego, which has seemingly inflated following the release of her admittedly popular album brat last year.
Me liking every tweet dragging her ass for this https://t.co/FfeiFx6xzv pic.twitter.com/uHNAIFekGm

“Full shade she has exactly one successful album,” read a viral tweet with over 168,000 likes and 7.1 million views.
“Everyone talking about popularity and who should or shouldn’t have headlined, meanwhile no one’s talking abt the fact that this is just extremely fucking disrespectful towards your fellow artists. doesn’t matter who the headliner was, this is just being a d—,” another popular post pointed out.
“Imagine being so far up ur own a– that u think ur more popular than green day after one mediocre edm album that was overplayed by coke addicts on tiktok… NEXT!” said a viral tweet with over 187,000 likes and 8.4 million views.
“An acclaimed punk rock group that’s been around for 20+ years & finally got to headline this festival, only for some lady with a mean girl mentality to think she should headline with NO acclaimed discography but 2 singles from different decades,” concurred a fourth viral post.

Charli XCX will have another change to complain about not being as famous as one of the most notable rock bands of the last 30 years next weeks, as Coachella’s second weekend features the exact same line-up at the first.
