FYRE Festival 2’s future is in doubt after news that the event will not go on in Playa del Carmen as previously planned.

An official in the Mexican city insisted to The U.S. Sun that they knew nothing about the controversial event after founder Billy McFarland’s big press conference.

On Friday, April 4, Billy insisted he had permits from Playa del Carmen’s government, despite the official’s statement.

“FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event,” he said.

“All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”

Then, on Sunday, TMZ reported the event will not happen at all in Playa del Carmen, citing an unnamed Fyre Festival exec.

Billy has not commented on TMZ’s report, and it’s unclear if the festival will go on at all.

Fyre Festival 2 is ‘fake news’ & NOT happening in Playa del Carmen, official insists after Billy McFarland announcement

In recent weeks, Billy changed the coordinates of the event on the Fyre Festival 2 website to 20°38’07.0″N 87°03’30.8″W- which lines up to the Marina Beach Club in Playa del Carmen.

Previously, the coordinates landed somewhere in the middle of the ocean, which left fans baffled.

‘DO NOT GO TO FYRE FESTIVAL 2’

Billy’s former colleague J.D. Beebe warned those interested in the messy event in an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun.

“I don’t even think there’s been enough promise to go as advertised, so I don’t even know what people are signing up for,” he said.

“I don’t believe that what he said people have paid for is true, he has a long history of stating things that aren’t true, in terms of x numbers, tickets, and this, that and the other.

“It seems like there’s an event that’s going to happen. But who knows what it’s going to be, you know? I don’t know. Is that a victory, that an event is going to happen?

“Is it going to go on as as advertised? No, because he’s advertised nothing.”

The event’s location has changed twice since being announced.

ticket obtained by The U.S. Sun for the event listed the date as December 6, 2024, but it has been pushed back several times since then.

As of today, the event is slated to go on from May 30 through June 2, 2025- just weeks away.

In addition to his Fyre Festival drama, Billy also owes the government nearly $35 million in overdue taxes and restitution to his past victims, The U.S. Sun previously reported.

In 2018, Billy was sentenced to six years in prison on fraud charges for his role in the original Fyre Festival disaster, which saw ticketholders stranded with no lodging or concert after they were promised a major luxury event in the Bahamas.

He was released in 2022, and vowed to right his wrongs.

“I lied,” he told the New York Times. “I think I was scared. And the fear was letting down people who believed in me, showing them they weren’t right.”
