Looking to get the most bang for your buck? Then, you’re likely familiar with budget-friendly home decor and furniture websites like Wayfair. The online retailer offers a wide scope of furnishings, artwork, lighting, rugs, and more to help make beautifying your space a stress-free experience. However, some shoppers have found the opposite to be true. Customers are sharing their Wayfair horror stories, along with four reasons why they’ll never purchase from the site again.

1. Shoppers say Wayfair’s customer service is “downright criminal.”

Sometimes, all it takes is one horrible exchange with customer service to write a business off for good.
In a recent Reddit thread, one user shared that Wayfair refused to cancel their order even though it had been less than 24 hours and the product (a mattress) had yet to leave the warehouse. Instead, they were told they could return the item—but return shipping costs (up to $150) would be deducted from their refund.
“Don’t buy from Wayfair, their customer service is garbage, everything seems good until you want to cancel or return a product you ordered,” they wrote in their post.
“They are about as friendly as a loan shark to their customers,” the Reditter continued. “They don’t care if you’ve been an excellent customer and spent plenty with them beforehand and tell them you’ll never buy anything from them again. They just don’t give a [expletive] about their customers at all.”
“It’s worse than bad. It’s downright criminal,” cried a frustrated shopper. Another added: “100% agree. Worst customer service I have ever experienced!!!!”
“Stores don’t realize that one of the most important things is customer service. Treat me bad once, and I’ll never go back. And I never did,” wrote a third.
“I don’t know how they’re holding on. Their customer service has to be one of the worst, and they don’t care,” said a Redditor.
2. Wayfair’s return policy is ruffling feathers.

Wayfair’s return policy states that all merchandise must be returned in its “original, undamaged condition” and disassembled within 30 days of delivery. For shipments exceeding 150 pounds, the return will need to be scheduled with a special carrier.
The company also states that return costs will be taken out of your refund—this includes charges accumulated if you refuse delivery. Additionally, Wayfair doesn’t refund delivery charges, upgraded shipping charges, or delivery service upgrades (i.e. assembly fees).
“After dealing with Wayfair’s [expletive] return customer service, after they refused to take back a clearly defective product, after I jumped through every hoop and burden of proof they asked me to provide, I will NEVER shop with them. They’ve lost me for life,” one Redditor wrote in the thread.
“I canceled an order for a table after I was assured it would indeed be cancelled…Guess what showed up at my door? I refused delivery. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars to ship it back,” shared another Wayfair shopper.
“They sent me a huge 200 pound mirror that was poorly packed and completely shattered. When I told them I needed to return it, they not only told me I would need to pay a large fee to return it, but take it to FedEx myself,” said a customer. “This thing wouldn’t even fit in my car and I couldn’t drag it to my car if I tried. I eventually escalated enough times to have them send FedEx to get it from my house.”

3. Customers frequently complain about receiving the wrong items.

A shopper received green bathroom towels instead of blue—an easy fix…or so they thought.
“[I] was told it would cost $15.00 to return them. I paid $30 for the towels, and there was no way I was going to fork over half of what I paid to send them back. It is a rip off. Never bought from them again,” they revealed.
A fed-up customer said they had to pay $50 to return mis-advertised barstool chairs. “I needed them to be a specific measurement and the website said they were, but then I got them here and they were off by a couple inches,” they explained.
“I tried to get them to waive the shipping since I wouldn’t have bought them if they were sized correctly on the site and they insisted I put them back together and send them tape measurement photos to prove it. I had already disassembled and boxed and taped them. Super unsatisfied with how to handle it and they were rude about it,” they added.
4. Wayfair items can often be found cheaper elsewhere.
Wayfair also saw a slight dip in active customers.

If you’re willing to search high and low, you might be able to find Wayfair furniture for way less at competitor retailers, including Amazon.
“Pro tip: Wayfair is a white box label company. Meaning, it’s stuff rebranded for them and their sister companies. You can usually reverse image search the furniture and find it elsewhere for significantly cheaper. I actually had a rep at Wayfair tell me that a couple of years ago,” admitted a Redditor.
“As much as I’m not a fan of Amazon, they have almost always had the exact same stuff that Wayfair offers but cheaper. If I’m gonna pay a big evil company, I’m gonna go with the one that I give the least money to,” a second person chimed in.
Even a former Wayfair employee corroborated: “As someone who worked there for several years… you aren’t far from the truth at all.”
“When you can reverse image search and find the same items for 30% less… Of course Wayfair is on the way out,” reads another comment.
