Evanescence Unveil New Song "Afterlife" for Netflix's Devil May Cry

Evanescence have unveiled a brand-new song called “Afterlife” for the new Netfilx anime series Devil May Cry, which is set to premiere on April 3rd. In advance of the show’s debut, fans can hear the full track now in the official lyric video below.

“I absolutely love the show, art and story,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee told Billboard. “I have always loved good anime. Right from the first scene of the show, I knew it was going to be good. Creative and thought-provoking, horrific and beautiful, classic.”

Devil May Cry is based on the long-running video-game franchise of the same name, created in 2001 by Hideki Kamiya. While Lee wasn’t familiar with the game, she did watch an advance of the entire first season of the Netflix show before co-writing the song with DJ/producer/composer Mako (aka Alex Seaver).

“I love it. It’s so well done. It’s beautiful to look at,” she told The Gamer. “I mean, it’s gruesome, it’s not for children. But when I say it’s well done, I mean the story and it’s layered and you’re like, ‘Oh, shit!’ You’re definitely on a trip constantly.”

Evanescence have been working on the follow-up to their 2021 album The Bitter Truth, although it is unclear whether “Afterlife” will appear on the band’s forthcoming LP.

On May 14th, Evanescence will open for Halsey in Los Angeles. The band is also slated to support My Chemical Romance in Tampa, Florida, on September 14th, and play Louisville’s Louder Than Life festival on September 21st, before hitting the road with Metallica for a November tour of Australia and New Zealand.
