General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that soap veteran Daniel Cosgrove has joined GH as Ezra Boyle, a politician who’ll make his debut in the March 21 episode. Ezra is cast as a new character who’s a bit on the arrogant side and definitely knows his way around the political world.
That’s why Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) will make a connection with Ezra and consider an intriguing alliance.
Of course, some trust issues could develop since it sounds like Drew and Ezra are a lot alike!
Ezra and Drew are perhaps both the kind of people who play to win no matter the cost.
Whatever the case, Daniel Cosgrove will make his first appearance in the role of Ezra Boyle starting March 21.
There’s an interesting story behind how Cosgrove got the job since Ezra isn’t the part he originally auditioned for.
Once Charles Mesure decided to step away from the part of Jack Brennan, the show went on the hunt for a recast back in January.
Cosgrove auditioned to play Brennan before the role ultimately went to Chris McKenna, but he got another offer to play Ezra soon after.
It turns out Cosgrove’s audition process gave him the chance to reunite with a former co-star since he read with Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), who he hadn’t seen since their time on Guiding Light together.
Daniel Cosgrove has a soapy link to Cameron Mathison as well since they were both on All My Children back in the ‘90s.
You might also recognize Cosgrove from his work on As the World Turns, Days of Our Lives along with other film and television projects like You, Blue Bloods, Billions, The Equalizer and more.
After the actors’ strike in 2023, Cosgrove began to teach acting and got another job selling vehicles.
That’s why Cosgrove started thinking he was out of show business, but then this role came along and reignited his passion.
Now that Cosgrove has been filming for about a month and a half, he’s settling in and clearly loving his stint in Port Charles according to his interview with TV Insider.
“I mean, I get to work hours early and I don’t want to sound corny, but each and every day is just a blessing,” Cosgrove said.
The actor offered up some praise for GH’s wonderful cast and admitted things have been fun so far.
Although Ezra starts off working with Drew, he’ll eventually interact with other key players like Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and more Quartermaine family members.
