Simon ‘Miniminter’ Minter has explained how it all went wrong, after Sketch’s viral penalty save crushed his dreams at this year’s Sidemen Charity Match.
YouTube AllStars won the annual charity match in a penalty shootout 5-4 after a 9-9 draw, played in front of a packed Wembley Stadium with 90,000 attendees and streamed to millions on YouTube.
Sketch’s insane save against Miniminter’s penalty, arguably the best player on Sidemen FC, won them the match and earned him Player of the Match.
Sketch was awarded a trophy for being crowned the Player of the match.
Sidemen’s Miniminter addresses that Sketch save
Simon broke down the penalty miss in a YouTube video on March 11, titled “My Charity Match Performance…”
He explained, “I told Calfreezy [Sidemen FC’s manager for the match], I told this man I don’t want to take a penalty. In my whole career as a footballer, i’ve taken three penalties that mean something. Like in match, in a penalty shootout or whatever. I’ve never scored. I didn’t want to take this, but I got put first by the team.
“I walked up, and in my head the only way to describe this is I didn’t have a single thought that Sketch would dive.”
Miniminter continued, “This is going to sound very arrogant and I hate it, but if you asked everyone ‘who would you put your money on to score?’ Weller [Joe Weller] is up there, but a lot of them would say me.
“For someone that isn’t me it was the perfect storyline, Sketch becomes a hero saving my penalty, which then also leads to a Speed winning penalty.”

“In my head he dives so far forward, but he’s on his line. It’s unbelievable,” he said, adding, “If I could go back and do it again i’d 100%, I wish I could score. But, I am so happy it’s Sketch. I didn’t become like the d**khead, he became the hero if you know what I mean.
“I literally have nothing to say other than congrats to Sketch for saving the pen, f**king amazing save,” Simon concluded.
The Sidemen Charity Match 2025 on March 8, streamed to over 43 million viewers, raised £4,733,004 GBP ($6,115,072 USD) for charity, with top creators like MrBeast, IShowSpeed, Kai Cenat, and Logan Paul taking part.
In the days following, the YouTube group revealed more details about Inside Season 2, their hit reality show, including the contestants, release date, and how to watch the highly anticipated new season.
