Bon Iver and Danielle Haim Duet on “If Only I Could”: Stream

Bon Iver has returned with two new singles, “Walk Home” and the Danielle Haim-featuring duet, “If Only I Could.”

Both songs come from Justin Vernon’s upcoming album, SABLE, fABLE (due on April 11th), and are evocative of the album’s dualistic treatment of love, with “Walk Home” embodying a sensual, loving vibe, and “If Only I Could” describing seeds of doubt in a relationship.

In a statement, Vernon explained, “For the second look into fABLE, it couldn’t be a single; it had to be a double. First, ‘Walk Home’ is a romp where you can’t wait to pull your clothes off fast enough and jump inside bed with your one true lover. And then — the two of singles — ‘If Only I Could Wait.’ A duet. A bilateral crying question. How long can the two of us hang on to each other?”

“If Only I Could” features a verse sung by Haim and an outro of the two singer’s voices weaving together in harmony. According to its press release, the song was forged in the studio in 2022 when both artists were snowed-in for a couple of days with producer Jim-E Stack.

Both singles arrived with accompanying lyric videos. Watch them below.

Bon Iver released the lead single for SABLE, fABLE, “Everything Is Peaceful Love” last month, along with a John Wilson-directed music video. Prior to that, he released the album’s first portion, SABLE, last October.

Haim, meanwhile, recently teamed up with her sister’s again for HAIM’s first new single since 2023, “Relationships.”
