There’s been another exciting casting update about HBO’s new Harry Potter television series.

The cast for the show, which will retell JK Rowling‘s beloved novels, is slowly starting to come together.

John Lithgow recently confirmed that he would play Albus Dumbledore. Now, a new report suggests that the studio is eying actors to play Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape.

Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall

On Friday (March 7), Deadline reported that Janet McTeer was in talks to play Minerva McGonagall. The role was previously played by Maggie Smith in the original film series.

Meanwhile, Paapa Essiedu is said to be coming closer to signing on to the movie as Severus Snape. The role was originally played by Alan Rickman, and Paapa was one of the first actors rumored to be tied to the show.

HBO did not confirm the casting rumors, instead issuing the following statement: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”
