Adidas reports all remaining inventory associated with their collaboration with Kanye West has been sold. “That episode is behind us.”
Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, launched a deal with Adidas back in 2013, valued at $1 billion at the time. But that partnership quickly dissolved when Adidas severed ties with Ye in late 2022 after his antisemitic tirade on social media. Now, the company has finally offloaded the rest of its Yeezy stock, putting the chapter behind them.
Even though ending that collaboration dramatically impacted the company’s bottom line, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” said Adidas. “[West’s] recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, and fairness.”
Since then, while West’s problematic behavior rages on, Adidas has been hard at work to offload what remains of their Yeezy stock. That’s despite the company losing revenue in the US throughout all of 2023 and most of 2024, when sales declined in the region by 2% “solely due to significantly lower Yeezy sales.” The sportswear brand began liquidating its remaining Yeezy stock in mid 2023, with a pledge to donate part of the proceeds to organizations like the Anti-Defamation League to combat antisemitism.
But now, the excess Yeezy stock has been sold, putting a final nail in the collaboration that once made Kanye West a billionaire. “There is not one Yeezy shoe left,” said Adidas Chief Financial Officer Harm Ohlmeyer. “It has all been sold, and that episode is behind us.”
Forbes reports around $1.5 billion of West’s net worth was due to his partnership with Adidas. He continues to use the Yeezy brand name for his own merch, including an ad that ran in select markets during the Super Bowl. The strange spot, filmed on West’s iPhone, caused outrage for linking to his website, where only a white t-shirt with a swastika remained for sale.
West has since gone on more antisemitic rants, regularly posting hate on his social media accounts and proclaiming himself to be a nazi—before backtracking and apologizing yet again.
