Rapper and YouTuber DDG has spoken out in defense of Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, addressing critics who accuse him of ‘begging’ for subscriptions.
During a March 2 livestream, DDG compared paying for Twitch subscriptions to paying for streaming services like Netflix, arguing that the platform offers unique value for fans.
While streaming, he noticed a critical comment about Kai Cenat in his chat. The viewer claimed that Cenat is wealthy solely because fans give him money. Clearly unimpressed by the claim, DDG called out the flawed logic.
“That comment doesn’t even make any sense,” he began, before reading it aloud: “‘Guy who’s literally rich because people give him money.’ Ain’t nobody asking nobody for no money,” he said.
The streamer then pointed out that viewers voluntarily choose to subscribe or donate to their favorite creators, emphasizing the interactive nature of Twitch.
He went on to explain how Twitch subscriptions differ from other paid services: “Y’all pay for Netflix every month and don’t ever get any type of shoutout. You’re paying for all these memberships every month and don’t ever get a shoutout from nobody,” he said.
“You get on Twitch, you get a shoutout, you get shown love, you get an emblem. At least you’re getting something, you know what I’m saying? Like, it’s different, bro. That’s the whole point of being on Twitch.”
DDG argued that Twitch subscribers gain a personal connection and recognition from their favorite streamers, which isn’t something other platforms offer.
He concluded his response by dismissing the idea that Twitch creators like Kai Cenat actively push for donations. Instead, he framed subscriptions as an act of appreciation from fans.
“People sub up because they wanna be seen by their favorite creator. Ain’t got nothing to do with nothing else,” the 27-year-old added.
DDG and Kai Cenat share a close friendship and have collabed on numerous streams. In January, the rapper made headlines when he fulfilled a fan’s dreams by gifting him a PS5 and letting him meet Cenat.
