Ironmouse blasts haters claiming her chronic illness is a “gimmick”

VTubing star Ironmouse has hit out at haters who claim her chronic illness is actually just a “gimmick,” and she’s gotten plenty of support.

Over the past few years, as Ironmouse has ascended to the top of the streaming world, the VTuber hasn’t just had to deal with on-stream issues.

The VShojo star also suffers from common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). In the past, she had attempted to hide the illness while she was live on Twitch, even masking the noise of her oxygen cylinders. However, that has changed.

Ironmouse and friends have championed research into the condition, raising money for the Immune Deficiency Foundation. She has become more about it too, regularly talking about it on stream.

Ironmouse blasts critics over CVID

The VTuber, however, has had to hit out at critics who claim that the immunodeficiency is just a “gimmick” for her character.

“Being chronically ill is not a gimmick or a trend or a trait that is owned by anyone,” she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s a s*itty reality many of us have to live with and we should feel comfortable and safe in our own communities to be able to share that part of our life if we choose to talk about it.”

Ironmouse’s post drew plenty of support too, including from creators who say that she has inspired them.

“You inspired me to open up to my community about my illness – I’ve only been able to mention it twice because it’s one thing I’d never want to burden anyone with,” streamer Cherimu replied. “Thank you for this mouse,” another said.

“I think one of the worst things is when you open up about a chronic illness and are accused of using it for clout and using your community for pity growth. I think streaming and being a creator has really made me uncomfortable to share much with people,” Fernwytch added.

The streamer has also said that she won’t do a face reveal anytime soon.
