COLLIN’S CLAIMS

But Kate’s son Collin forced her mom back into the limelight when he accused her of abuse

Kate placed Collin in an inpatient special needs program for two years before he went to live with his father.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun from September 2024, Collin claimed, “I just remember being isolated from my siblings and constantly taking the fall for her emotions or the tough things going on in her life.

“I just remember being a scapegoat and always taking the brute end of things.

“I was 100 percent treated differently [than my siblings]. I was isolated and I was taken away from them and I didn’t eat dinners with my family.

“I didn’t get to play or hang out with my siblings. I didn’t have a childhood with them and I never really had a relationship with them growing up.”

Collin claimed when he was eight or nine years old, his mother allegedly built a room in an unfinished section of the basement for him.

Collin claimed, “So this, it was like a containment room, literally, and it had a mattress on the floor and that’s how I lived.

“And I was there, you know, most of the day because I didn’t go to school after a certain point.

“So most of the day I was in that room and I was away from my siblings and I never really went outside.

He bravely continued to claim, “My mother at many, many times, and most of the time became physically aggressive, verbally, very abusive with the things she would say.

“And obviously that carries over to the emotional side of things where a young child doesn’t know any better, so it was a very, very emotionally abusive relationship.

“And when my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me.”

Kate did not respond to the claims, but her lawyer Richard said he did not believe she’d done anything to “intentionally harm” Collin.

He added “she did what she did to protect herself and her family” from what he alleged was “troubled behavior” by Collin.

Despite the claims, Collin insisted the “door is open” for a relationship with his mother today.

He previously told The U.S. Sun, “I think the only way that my mother and I would be able to reconnect and fix our relationship in the future is, if she would just come forward with the truth and all the things that she has kept under wraps.

“And you know the many times that she’s tried to soil my name and my father’s name. I just would want her to come forward with the truth.”

  • After a string of flings, Jon began dating Liz Jannetta in 2012, which lasted about two years. They even appeared in Season 4 of VH1’s reality series Couple’s Therapy to work through their differences.

  • The TV personality moved on with his current partner, Stephanie Lebo, a few months later. They kept their relationship under wraps for a while before going public in August 2023 in an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun. Jon revealed that he and Stephanie were ‘really happy and in love.’

SHOW OVER

Kate last appeared on TLC in 2019 for spinoff Kate Plus Date.

TLC officially cut ties with the family in 2019 after Jon and Kate fought in court over filming.

As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Jon filed a petition for contempt against Kate on October 18, 2019, claiming she filmed the four minor children in her custody – Leah, Alexis, Joel, and Aaden – without his consent.

A standalone episode of Kate Plus 8 aired on October 1, 2019, titled College Bound and featured their twin daughters Mady and Cara’s college tours and a family vacation.

Jon claimed in court papers that he did not receive information from Kate or TLC that “filming of the minor children was to occur” for the episode.

As part of a May 14, 2019 agreement, Kate is allowed to film with the minor children in her custody if she and/or the TLC provide him with a “filming schedule including the date, time and location of filming.”

He demanded his ex-wife be held in contempt and pay $1,500.

In Kate’s response to his petition on October 30, 2019, she claimed she “was under the mistaken impression” that the network was “handling all notifications to the Father and that she was not personally responsible for these notifications” regarding filming for the episode.

She then filed a counterclaim against Jon, where she accused him of continuing to “publicly embarrass” her and “tarnish” her reputation.

She said her ability to continue the show is “completely thwarted.”

Kate then blamed him for TLC canceling the series.

She claimed in the court papers, “Father has continued to sell private information and documents…

“The resulting publications shed negative light on Mother and directly on the TLC network, which consequently leaves the network unwilling to continue its relationship with Mother.”

Despite Kate’s arguments, the court found her in contempt and ordered her to pay $1,500 in attorney’s fees to Jon.

The court also dismissed Kate’s counterclaim against Jon.

Today, Jon works as a deejay.

He is engaged to longtime girlfriend Stephanie Lebo.
