Experts warn viral ‘bathroom mirror’ TikTok trend could land you in hospital

A viral TikTok challenge has users doing handstands on bathroom sinks – but experts warn this risky stunt could lead to serious injuries.

The popular ‘bathroom mirror’ trend on TikTok has users attempting gravity-defying handstands on bathroom sinks, filming themselves in front of mirrors.

Participants are striking impressive, often bizarre poses to the track ‘Thug n 30’ by Young Thug, garnering millions of views. Reactions to these videos range from awe to alarm.

One commenter shared, “I tried this. It’s much harder than it looks,” while another confessed, “This trend is scaring me.”

As the challenge spreads, safety concerns are growing, with experts warning that unstable sinks and hard surfaces create an especially dangerous setting for stunts like these.

Experts warn against ‘bathroom mirror’ trend

Personal injury experts at 844SeeMike are cautioning users to think twice before attempting this stunt. They explain that bathroom sinks are not engineered to bear body weight and are prone to collapse, potentially causing serious injuries like concussions, fractures, or even spinal damage.

Mike Agruss, Founding Attorney, Consumer Safety Advocate, and Personal Injury Lawyer at the firm, expressed concern over the trend. “These videos have had millions of views, and since these bathroom fixtures are not designed to support body weight, there are major risks to copying this behavior,” he said.

Agruss explained that falls from a collapsing sink can often lead to head trauma, such as concussions, bone fractures, and even long-term mobility issues. He also noted that medical expenses for treatment and the costs of repairing the damaged property can be substantial.

Beyond the physical dangers, participants in this trend may face legal and financial consequences if they damage sinks in public restrooms, schools, or rental properties.

“When participants damage someone else’s property or encourage others to try the trend, there will likely be legal consequences that follow in the wake of collapsing sinks,” Agruss warned. “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.”

This is just the latest trend that experts have flagged red, after medical professionals warned against the viral ‘dropping things on feet’ craze.
