Jason Statham Returning For 'The Beekeeper 2', Timo Tjahjanto Directing For Miramax

EXCLUSIVE: Miramax is reteaming with Jason Statham for The Beekeeper 2, a sequel to the 2024 $152.7M global hit. Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto is set to helm off a Kurt Wimmer screenplay.

Cameras will roll this fall.

The first movie, directed by David Ayer, follows a retired clandestine human intelligence operative who sets out for revenge after his kind-hearted landlady becomes the victim of a phishing scam that steals millions of dollars from a charity she runs. The studio and filmmakers are looking to bring Ayer back in a producing capacity to the sequel. Ayer is currently in production on the Brad Pitt Paramount movie The Heart of the Beast.

Amazon/MGM Studios is currently being buzzed to take domestic on the sequel, the first of which they handled a year ago, filling a void in a strike-impacted box office.

Horror-action filmmaker Tjahjanto counts massive Indonesian features on Netflix: The Shadow Strays, The Night Comes for Us, and The Big FourNobody 2, which has Bob Odenkirk returning, and also stars Sharon Stone and Connie Nielsen, is being released on Universal on Aug. 15.

Tjahjanto is repped by WME, 360 Management, and attorney Mario Rush. Statham is a producer through his Punch Palace Productions shingle. Chris Long is producing through Long Shot Productions. Statham and Long are repped by attorney Patrick Knapp.

Miramax has been a tear as of late, co-financing the international $66M-plus grossing hit Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. They also have Roofman with Channing Tatum at Paramount, and the Liam Neeson caper 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank. They’re also about to commence production on the new Scary Movie, also being released via Paramount, with the Wayans Brothers. Another big film from Miramax in the pipeline is Scandalous with Colman Domingo directing Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson.
