Katy Perry and Gayle King have been confirmed to travel to space on Blue Origin’s all-women mission this spring.
They’ll be joined by former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. The group is rounded out by Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée (Bezos founded the aerospace company Blue Origin and flew into space himself in 2021). According to the New York Post, Sánchez brought the six-person crew together for the upcoming mission.
King shared the news on her CBS Mornings program, saying that she even consulted her BFF Oprah on the decision. “I don’t know how to explain being terrified and excited at the same time. It’s like how I felt about to deliver a baby,” said King. “Once Kirby and Will and Oprah was fine with it, I was fine. I thought Oprah would say ‘no, no.’ She said, ‘I think if you don’t do it, when they all come back and you had the opportunity to do it, you will be kicking yourself.’ She’s right.”
As for Perry, she hasn’t yet made a statement about her upcoming flight, but it’s safe to say she’s pretty excited. After all, Perry once compared her lover to an “E.T.,” and now, she might have the chance to meet one for real.
Perry isn’t just going to space this year, she’s also going on her first US tour in seven years. Get tickets to her “Lifetimes Tour” here.
