The Hexa drone has been around for a hot minute but recently the public got its first good look at the $495,000 personal aircraft that weighs less than a motorcycle and flies like a helicopter. A video has been circulating this week showing the Hexa drone in action with its 18 independent electric motors, augmented reality geo fence, and more.
The popular YouTube account SupercarBlondie got to check out the Hexa and take it for a quick spin. He demonstrates how he can easily lift up one leg of the drone due to how lightweight it is. Then he pops in the cockpit to show what it’s like in action.
With only a 15-minute flight time, this electric drone/personal aircraft is still a long way from being a viable daily vehicle for most people but that could change quickly with advancements in battery technology. Check it out:
That same video has gone viral on TikTok for those who would prefer that over YouTube Shorts.
Popping over to the LiftAircraft website, the manufacturer of the Hexa Drone, there’s a lot to learn about this incredible personal flight drone. Firstly, it’s amphibious so it is capable of landing on water and land. This could be huge for lake rescues both in the Summer and Winter but also a really fun personal vehicle for fishermen seeking to reach fishing spots that are hard to get to on foot.
It flies using a 3-axis joystick but also has an autopilot function. And with the entire frame being made of carbon fiber, the Hexa drone is both incredibly sturdy and lightweight, weighing just 432 pounds.
According to Google, the price tag on this drone is around $495,000. But on the Lift Aircraft website they have information on how you can book a flight in Austin, Texas to experience flying the Hexa Drone for yourself. This clip shows how awed first-time pilots are after taking the Hexa up for a spin:
At ~$500K, this will realistically remain a toy for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean that it won’t be an incredibly popular toy among the uber wealthy, but as a personal aircraft it does’t make a ton of sense. You can pick up a Cessna for that same price. But as a rescue vehicle this could prove to be incredibly valuable in the future if they can triple or quadruple the battery life.
