Longtime Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu opened up about his relationship with his bandmates, revealing that he hasn’t spoken to them in years.
Fieldy stepped away from Korn’s touring activities in June 2021, following the group’s streaming concert event two months prior. The bassist cited personal reasons, including lapses into “bad habits,” as the reason for his departure, and he assured fans that there was no beef between him and the other members of Korn.
In a new interview with the Basement Talk podcast, Fieldy was asked about how things stand currently.
“I haven’t talked to those guys since 2019,” sasid the bassist. “So it’s like we’re just kind of both…. They’re truckin’. They’re a machine. They’re going. It’s insane. It’s dope that they can keep on going like that.”
When asked to clarify if it’s “all love between everybody,” Fieldy responded in the affirmative: “Yeah. It’s cool to see them keep on going. I’m, like, I need to chill. I’m just kickin’ it.”
While Fieldy noted that he hasn’t spoken with his bandmates since 2019, he did play the aforementioned global streaming concert “Korn: Monumental” in April 2021, perhaps throwing his timeline off by a couple years.
In October 2022, Fieldy clarified what he meant by “bad habits,” writing on social media, “When I made the statement about my ‘bad habits,’ they weren’t drugs. It’s just, at the end of the day — I don’t condone this — but when I’m done with all my responsibilities, I have a Bud Light, or as many as I want, to tell you the truth.”
While Fieldy may not have spoken with his bandmates, he has received emails from them. Guitarist Brian “Head” Welch told Kerrang! Radio in June 2022, “We’ve been in contact with him. I just emailed him the other day. So we’re gonna get together and talk to him, see how he’s doing, see where his head is at, after this tour. … We love him, we’ve been in communication with him, and we’ll see.”
Korn have definitely been active while Fieldy’s been laying low.
The nu-metal pioneers released an album in 2022, Requiem, on which Fieldy is credited, and continue to tour consistently and play festival and one-off dates with bassist Ra Diaz of Suicidal Tendencies. Next up, the band plays Sonic Temple and Welcome to Rockville before co-headlining a couple of System of a Down’s 2025 stadium shows. Get tickets here.
