Asmongold often reviews brand-new games while streaming, such as Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3, sharing his thoughts with his viewers and going back and forth when challenged.
In a YouTube video uploaded on February 23, 2025, titled “Avowed is a colossal failure,” the content creator shared his thoughts on the new open-world RPG.
He began the video by reacting to another gamer’s review of Avowed, wherein they heavily criticize Obsidian Entertainment’s freshest title.
After watching a few minutes of the review, Asmongold pauses to begin really diving into his own thoughts on Avowed. He first claims that “nothing happens” during the game before then claiming that it “legitimately hurt [his] ego and self-esteem.

“I’m going to be honest, it really did because I just feel like there were so many things I didn’t notice and I didn’t even see because I hadn’t played games like this before.”
When one viewer commented, “It’s not that serious, bro,” Asmongold doubled down and defended why he was so upset.
“I went, and I had this feeling about it and then it turned out I was just 100% wrong,” Asmongold explained regarding his high hopes for Avowed.
“I’m talking about 200% wrong. Completely f***ing wrong.”
Asmongold claims Avowed “is not made for guys”
The Avowed criticism didn’t stop there, however. Later on during his discussion, the streamer added that the RPG “wouldn’t even win Game of the Year in 2011” and that Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is the better title despite getting released in 2006.”
When further delving into why Avowed has failed to succeed and received a negative reception from gamers, Asmongold claimed that the reason was that the game does not lend itself to its intended audience.
“Let’s not forget the target audience; it’s guys. This game is not made for guys.”
To back up his point, he watched old trailers for Avowed that were much darker in tone and focused on “oaths and the crown and your duty,” which Asmongold alleges is “a narrative for guys” and should have been the direction of the final product.
Instead, he stated that what was released on February 15, 2025, was “not for guys.”
