Gaga said in a press release that “the album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” She described the creative process to “reassembling a shattered mirror: Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”

Lady Gaga executive-produced the 14-track Mayhem alongside Michael Polansky and Andrew Watt, with other producers including Watt, Cirkut, and Gesaffelstein. A new song will debut on Sunday, February 2, with a music video premiering during the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Mayhem will feature “Die With a Smile,” Gaga’s chart-topping duet with Bruno Mars. The Chromatica followup will also include the previously-released “Disease.” Gaga described the song as being “about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realizing that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. That I can try and run from them but they are still part of me and I can run and run but eventually I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.”

Last year, Gaga released an album called Harlequin in conjunction with the film Joker: Folie à Deux. Harlequin featured a collection of standards from the Great American Songbook as well as a pair of original songs.

On January 30, Lady Gaga will perform at FireAid, a fundraiser for communities devastated by wildfires and supporting efforts to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California. Other performers include Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Joni Mitchell, and many more.

In April, Gaga will headline Coachella. Other top-billed performers at the Indio, California festival are Post Malone, Travis Scott, and Green Day.
