Jennifer Lopez endured a difficult year in 2024 in both her personal and professional life, and 2025 doesn’t seem to be on much better of a start, as earlier this year, she was nominated for the Razzie Award for Worst Actress of the Year.
After a handful of professional set-backs in 2024 — a tepid response to her new album, having to cancel her summer tour, starring in the Razzie-nominated Atlas — Jennifer Lopez’s ego is “crushed,” according to reports from RadarOnline, who allegedly spoke to sources that said said she took the Razzie nominaton hard.
Making the nomination sting even worse for Lopez is the fact that she was the only element of the film, which released on Netflix last summer, that was nominated at the Razzies.
“Jennifer is taking it very badly,” a source said of Lopez being nominated for Worst Actress as the Razzies, which are essentially an inverse of the Oscars that “honor” the worst movies of the year. “Her ego is crushed.”
In Atlas — which also stars Simu Liu, Mark Strong, and Sterling K. Brown, and has a 19% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Lopez stars as Atlas Shepherd, “a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past, but when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.”
Earlier this year, reports did indicate that Lopez and her new film Kiss of the Spider Woman received a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival. While that’s obviously a boost for Lopez, there’s no guarantee that its appreciation at Sundance will translate to either widespread acclaim or success, as Sundance is a famously indie-minded artsy-leaning festival.
In addition to the premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lopez also recently starred in the Anthony Robles biopic on Prime Video, which has received solid reviews.
