MJ Lenderman stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night to perform his song “Joker Lips,” a cut off his lauded 2024 album Manning Fireworks.
Set against a backdrop inspired by Manning Fireworks‘ hand-painted artwork, Lenderman and his band The Wind provide a faithful rendition of “Joker Lips.” Lenderman may be playing guitar and singing, but he inhabits the character depicted in “Joker Lips” a bit more; while he can’t sing the words “Draining cum from hotel showers,” he instead tosses the camera an eye roll and a quick “I’m gonna shoot myself” gesture. All the while, the band’s warm, golden-hour guitar work and patient trot gives “Joker Lips” a comforting glow. Watch their performance below.
Kimmel is Lenderman’s latest stop in supporting Manning Fireworks, which we named as one of the best albums of 2024. He recently made his solo debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and performed standout single “Wristwatch” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Meanwhile, Lenderman has also been out on the road, and has a major slate of tour dates coming throughout the rest of the year. He’s currently finishing the first leg of his 2025 North American tour this month, and after a Australian and New Zealand tour in March, he’ll head back stateside for another run of US and Canada dates. He also recently unveiled a new string of summer and fall shows; see all MJ Lenderman’s tour dates below, and get tickets to see him here.
