After Kanye West spent the weekend posting some of the most vile things imaginable on his Twitter account, even Elon Musk had apparently had enough. Early Monday morning, Musk announced that West’s account had been “classified as NSFW” and that the distribution of his posts would be limited on timelines. Not long after, West announced his departure from the platform.
“I’m logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent,” West wrote “It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board. It was like an Ayahuasca trip. Love all of you who gave me the energy and attention. To [sic] we connect again. Good afternoon and goodnight.”
There’s no need to give oxygen to the kind of content West was sharing, but if you’ve followed him over the last half-decade, you can probably guess. That said, it wasn’t his racism or antisemitism that seemed to cross the line for Musk. Instead, it was when West began posting explicit pornography clips on his feed that led to him finally getting the boot.
For his part, West maintains that he is not suffering from a mental health crisis. “I wouldn’t want anybody to do an intervention of me,” he said in a video posted on Sunday. “I’m telling you calmly, I am in a good space. I am really in a positive space. I am cathartic.”
