Bob Mould has unveiled ‘Neanderthal,’ the latest single from his upcoming album Here We Go Crazy, set for release on March 7 via Granary Music/BMG Records.
‘Neanderthal’ is a relentless burst of energy, capturing the urgency and aggression that has long defined Mould’s sound. Fueled by driving guitars, pounding drums, and a sense of chaotic momentum, the track paints a vivid picture of tension and turmoil. Mould’s lyrics explore a fight-or-flight response, narrating the experience of growing up in an unstable environment.
Discussing the single, Mould shares:
“In the early stages of writing this album, I envisioned ‘Neanderthal’ as the opening track. I imagined a child raised in an unstable home, perpetually exposed to erratic and confrontational behavior. A fight or flight situation. ‘Neanderthal’ is a frantic sprint through darkened hallways littered with tension, conflict, and aggression. A claustrophobic maze of distorted mirrors. As the song nears the end, a pair of subconscious voices appear. The first voice is both soothing and unsettling, while the final voice is reactionary and violent. It’s a fight or flight song.”
With Here We Go Crazy marking his first full-length studio album in over four years, ‘Neanderthal’ sets the stage for what promises to be another powerhouse release from Mould.
