Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival with Sarah Michelle Gellar

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival with Sarah Michelle Gellar

A Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival with Sarah Michelle Gellar in final talks to reprise the title character is nearing a pilot order at Hulu, according to Variety and Deadline.

Described as the “next chapter” in the Buffyverse, the series will reportedly introduce a new Slayer, with Gellar appearing in a recurring role. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) is attached to direct the pilot, which was written by showrunners Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face).

Executive producers include Dolly Parton (whose Sandollar company produced the original series), Zhao, Gellar, and both Zuckermans. Creator Joss Whedon will not be involved in the reboot after he was accused of creating a toxic work environment on the set of both Buffy and its spin-off series Angel.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name starring Kristy Swanson, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons from 1997 through 2003.
