Gojira Win Best Metal Performance At 2025 Grammys

Gojira collected the award for Best Metal Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night (February 02).

The band were honoured for their version of ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)’ which they performed during the opening ceremony of the summer Olympic Games in Paris last year. This was the band’s first ever Grammy win.

In his speech, frontman Joe Duplantier said “We had the privilege to perform at the Olympic ceremony with Marina [Viotti] and Victor [Le Masne] so this is a great day for us, obviously. We want to dedicate this award to all the bands that are pushing the boundaries, support your local artists, support your local bands because that’s where it’s at and they’re inspiring us to continue. So, thank you very much for this.”

Spiritbox, Knocked Loose & Poppy, Judas Priest and Metallica were also nominated in the category. Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante congratulated the band on social media, saying “30 years as a band, no member changes, opened the Olympic ceremony in their home country….no one deserves it more!”
