Jimmy Carter, who recently passed away at 100, has earned a historic posthumous Grammy win.
At the Premiere Ceremony for the 2025 Grammy Awards this evening, the former president and noted music lover won the category of Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording for the 2024 project Last Sunday in Plains: A Centennial Celebration, which celebrated Carter’s legacy and arrived a few months before his death. At 100 years old, his posthumous win made Carter the oldest Grammy winner in history.
Surprisingly, this isn’t Carter’s first Grammy win. When the category was still known as Best Spoken Word Album, he won in 2007 for Our Endangered Values, in 2016 for his memoir A Full Life: Reflections at 90, and again in 2019 for Faith: A Journey For All.
His nomination this year — which, remarkably, was his 10th nomination in the category — made him the oldest nominee in Grammy history. Pinetop Perkins, who was 97 when he won Best Traditional Blues Album in 2011, is now the second oldest Grammy winner in history.
