With just 24 hours to go until he hosts TikTok’s second annual Global Live Fest in London, American superstar Jason Derulo opens up to Jamie Laing about everything from his childhood, making music, becoming a Dad, breaking his spine and as a result having to cancel his tour, on the latest episode of the Radio 1 DJ’s podcast ‘Great Company with Jamie Laing’.

Famous for a string of global smash hits, including ‘Whatcha Say’, ‘Want to Want Me’ and ‘In My Head’, Derulo has long been praised for his talents as a dazzling live performer, often showcasing intricate and quite frankly mind-blowing choreography in both his music videos and stage shows.

Beyond music, he has appeared as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, and has ventured into acting, appearing in movies Cats and Spinning Gold.

Talking to Jamie about his love of music, and how he likes to take risks in the studio, Jason says: “I think it’s important to do something fresh, and bring something new to the table. I remember when my A&R Mike Karen – who by the way is one of the best A&Rs EVER – heard ‘Talk Dirty’ for the first time, and he was like: ‘this is either is going to be the biggest hit in the world, or it’s gonna tank the hard!’ Right there and then I knew I had to record that song.”

Opening up about his insecurities away from the limelight, the three time Teen Choice Award winner shares: “When people talk about my weight, it can be tough. I’ve always believed you have to wear your insecurities with a smile, but it’s hard to do that sometimes when you feel like the whole world is watching and sometimes judging you.”

Other topics discussed on the pod include how Jason feels his life changed after becoming a Dad, dream collaborations, dealing with success, and what he really thinks about having his name in a song…

Featuring an array of compelling discussions, with a diverse roster of guests from the worlds of entertainment, culture, and sport, Great Company invites anyone and everyone to pull up a seat and join in the conversation – and with Jamie at the helm, listeners can be sure to expect convos that are anything but ordinary!

Since launching earlier this year, guests on the pod have included comedian Jo Brand, chart-topping singer-songwriters, YUNGBLUDPaloma Faith and Zara Larsson, broadcaster Elizabeth Day and magician, Dynamo.
