Sydney Sweeney has seemingly accepted the title of being a University of Miami fraternity’s “Sweetheart.” Sweeney, born in Washington and raised in Idaho, briefly attended UCLA and has no formal ties to the University of Miami.

In an post on the University of Miami Theta Chi Instagram, the fraternity announced that the popular Anyone But You actress has become the chapter’s “Sweetheart.”

“Theta Chi is proud to announce our sweetheart @sydney_sweeney ❤️🌹❤️ Welcome to the family- can’t wait to see what the future holds…” the frat posted (they’ve blocked the ability to embed photos so if you want to see the post, follow this link).

If there were any questions about the announcement being legit, Sweeney herself put an end to them as she commented on the post saying “My favorite group of guys, see you soon,” with a winking face emoji.

I was in a fraternity at Rutgers a decade ago, and as far as what a “Sweetheart” is, it’s usually a sorority girl that’s voted to “represent” the fraternity.

As for what that entails, well, that varies. It could be as simple as dating one of the brothers and hanging out at the house a lot, or baking, cooking, and helping organize events such as art projects/cleaning days/charity events/date nights etc.

Mainly, though, it’s just a status thing that amounts to a fraternity saying, “This (likely attractive) sorority girl being our Sweetheart makes us look cool,” and the Sweetheart saying, “Me being elected as the Sweetheart of this fraternity makes me look hot.” So, by that metric, it’s difficult to think of a more elite fraternity Sweetheart that Sydney Sweeney. Hats off, fellas.

As for what Sweeney’s up to as she kicks off 2025, she recently began production on her newest film, an adaptation of the best-selling novel The Housemaid, which is being directed by Bridesmaids filmmaker Paul Feig and also co-stars Amanda Seyfried.
