Mel Gibson says that his Malibu home was destroyed in the wildfires that have devastated the Los Angeles area this week.
Speaking to NewsNation, Gibson explained that he was in Austin, recording an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, when he learned that his house was under threat. “I was kind ill at ease while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire. I thought, ‘Eh, I wonder if my place is still there.’ When I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.”
“I have never seen a place so perfectly burned, you could put it in an urn,” Gibson continued. “[The area] was completely toasted. I’ve never seen such a complete burn.”
Despite the tragedy, Gibson tried to find some humor in the situation, joking that he’s now “been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.”
In addition to Gibson, other actors who lost their homes in the Los Angeles wildfires include John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy, Ed Harris, Milo Ventimiglia, Miles Teller, and Anna Faris.
