Founding Mushroomhead Singer Jeffrey Hatrix Battling Cancer

Founding Mushroomhead singer Jeffrey Hatrix (aka Jeffrey Nothing) is battling cancer, with the difficult news coming just months after the vocalist’s wife died from the disease.

Jeffrey’s daughter Mea launched a GoFundMe campaign supporting her father during his treatments, sharing the following message on the page:

“My dad has recently been diagnosed with Cancer, just months after losing my mom to the same thing. Due to this, he may have to stop working during his treatment. Anything means everything, Thank you.”

Jeffrey then shared the GoFundMe in a post on his own Facebook page with the following statement:

“I really wanted to keep this to myself. I was diagnosed a couple months ago. It will be very hard to continue working with the treatment path I have chosen. Thank You for anything you can do to help. I know everyone is going through a lot.”

Jeffrey’s wife Stacy died in April 2024 at the age of 38 after a long battle with cancer.

Jeffrey was Mushroomhead’s original singer and fronted the Cleveland alternative metal act from 1993 to 2018, when he left the group on acrimonious terms.

He has since been embroiled in a heated legal battle with the band’s founding drummer/producer Steve Felton regarding unpaid royalties for Hatrix’s prior songwriting credits and alleged copyright infringement. In the lawsuit filed last August, Hatrix was seeking at least $3.5 million.

Following Hatrix’s departure from Mushroomhead, he had been active under his eponymous Nothing moniker, releasing an EP in 2020, and also played shows with his revived Cleveland thrash metal band Purgatory.
