Aubrey Plaza Shares Statement On Death Of Husband Jeff Baena

Writer and director Jeff Baena, who was married to actress Aubrey Plaza, was found dead in a Los Angeles home at the age of 47 years old on January 3. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, Baena’s cause of death has been determined to be the cause of death to be suicide.

Baena was know for writing the 2004 film I Heart Huckabees and directing movies such as Life After Beth (2014), Joshy (2016), The Little Hours (2017), Horse Girl (2020) and Spin Me Round (2022).

Following Baena’s passing, Aubrey Plaza has released a brief official statement, thanking people for their support and asking for privacy during this time.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time,” Plaza and the Baena and Stern family said in a statement on Monday, January 6.

Baena and Plaza began dating in 2011 and got married in 2021. Plaza also starred in his films Life After Beth, The Little Hours, and Spin Me Round. They also collaborated on the 2021 comedy series Cinema Toast.

Last year saw Plaza star in the films My Old Ass and Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series Agatha All Along. Next year, Plaza is set to star in the films Animal Friends, The Ark and the Aardvark, and Honey Don’t!.

While accepting the award for Best Director at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, The Brutalist filmmaker Brady Corbet closed out his speech by sharing condolences to Plaza and her family.

“Finally, tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family,” Corbet said at the end of his moving acceptance speech.
