Keanu Reeves, arguably the most universally beloved actor currently working in Hollywood, is out on the press trail promoting the release of his latest film Sonic the Hedgehog 3. And given that Reeves has spent much of the last decade playing John Wick, the 60-year-old actor was naturally asked about the future of the franchise.
During a recent interview, Keanu Reeves was asked whether a fifth direct John Wick movie will happen and gave a predictably insightful answer that highlights the divide between the body and the mind.
While Reeves says that he wants to make another John Wick movie “in his heart,” his 60-year-old knees are sending him a different message and are perhaps asking for mercy.
“You can never say never, but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” the beloved actor told CBS Mornings while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3, in which he voices Shadow. “So, my heart does, but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”
Luckily for John Wick fans, while a fifth film in the main franchise seems unlikely — Reeves is the type of actor who would only commit to playing the character again if he felt he could deliver at the same level he always has — he will be reprising his role as the Baba Yaga in next summer’s spinoff film Ballerina, which will star Ana de Armas.
Alongside the Academy Award-nominated de Armas in the lead role and Reeves reprising his iconic role of John Wick, Ballerina also stars Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick in a posthumou performance.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer for Ballerina, which will be released in movie theaters on Friday, June 6, 2025, below.
“Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.”
At the time of the release of John Wick: Chapter 4, BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast spoke with franchise director and producer Chad Stahelski about the film’s surprisingly emotional ending — you can check him out breaking that down below or watch the full interview here.
