If you’ve seen Sony’s Spider-Man universe flicks like Madame Web and Morbius, Kraven the Hunter ends pretty much how you’d expect. Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring as Sergei Kravinoff dives into the character’s backstory and his chaotic mission to save his half-brother from The Rhino.

But while Kraven’s transformation into the iconic Spider-Man villain is, well, inevitable, it feels more like a “meh” moment than a thrilling payoff. And don’t even get me started on the weird character choices that throw everything off.

What Does Kraven the Hunter’s Finale Mean?

Well, Kraven the Hunter wraps up with a moment that’s both iconic and let’s just say, a bit on the nose. After saving his big brother and Rhino-slaying rampage, a year later, Sergei opens a box and finds his father’s creepy trophy, a lion’s head turned into a vest. And bam, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Sergei steps into Kraven’s legendary look from the comics, complete with that classic lion-head ensemble.

Not only this, he even strikes the classic pose, chin resting on his arm. It’s the Spider-Man villain transformation we all saw coming, but hey, at least it’s finally here in full, comic-book glory.

How Does Kraven the Hunter’s Ending Set Up Kraven’s Return?

Sony’s Spider-Man Kraven the Hunter has wrapped things with a rather rushed twist that leaves a lot to be desired. After a year of brooding and villainy, Sergei finds his father’s creepy lion-head vest and dons in Kraven’s iconic look. But the question is, is this the perfect setup for him to clash with Spider-Man?

Honestly, maybe in a multiversal dream sequence, but Sony’s current Spider-Man-less universe doesn’t give us much hope. It seems the real twist here is that Kraven the Hunter didn’t quite stick the landing. The ending feels like a half-baked microwave dinner, it has all the right ingredients but no time to cook properly. The rushed decisions, like Sergei accepting his father’s legacy so quickly and turning to full-on villain mode in minutes, feel like they were thrown in because the clock was ticking.

One would’ve hoped for Sergei to break free from the darkness, but instead, he’s just left to wear that vest, while the potential of the film evaporates faster than Kraven’s lion skin.
