André 3000 stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night to perform a rendition of his song “BuyPoloDisorder’s Daughter Wears A 3000® Shirt Embroidered.”
Donned in workman overalls and a blue hockey jersey, André led a restless ensemble as they moved from controlled chaos to ambient serenity. They provided a rough recreation of his New Blue Sun cut, with the experimental jazz track featuring kaleidoscopic synths, crashing cymbals and percussion, and cacophonous woodwind playing from André 3000. Watch André 3000’s full performance of “BuyPoloDisorder’s Daughter Wears A 3000® Shirt Embroidered” below.
André 3000 also sat for an interview with Jimmy Fallon during the show. Throughout the segment, the Outkast co-founder discussed his journey with woodwind instruments, why he tried to create a new rap album but it “wasn’t on tap,” and how his new era is built on trust in his band and himself. He also discussed bringing his flute around town to play as a way of passing time, which led to a handful of fans (particularly in Philadelphia) attempting to find him in various city parks. Watch his interview segment below.
André 3000 released his ambient-jazz album New Blue Sun in November of last year; since its release, he’s toured around the country, played festivals like the Montreal Jazz Fest and Camp Flog Gnaw, and has been nominated for three Grammys, including Album of the Year. While backstage at Camp Flog Gnaw, André also joined Narduwar for an extensive chat.
