Meta CEO and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, the 3rd wealthiest man on planet earth, debuted a new Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses feature today while ripping around a course in a dune buggy. As a Meta Ray-Ban glasses-wearer, this is actually a feature I’ve been wanting for a while: Shazam song recognition.
Mark Zuckerberg shared the video of him ripping around the dirt course, presumably at or near his compound in Kauai, and he can be seen listening to Jack Harlow’s ‘Hello Miss Johnson’ while taking deep turns. The only dialog in the clip is Mark saying “hello Meta, what song is this?” before the Meta AI assistant drops the knowledge on him.
Mark appears to have been living his best life over the past few days as 2024 winds down. He can be seen showing off his sick watch out the window of the dune buggy. And in addition to tearing it up on the dirt track, he spent the weekend training with former UFC Featherweight Champion and the current UFC ‘BMF’ Champion Max Holloway. It’s clear that Zuck has completely recovered from his ACL surgery at this point:
Funnily, this new feature quasi-touches on the only gripe I have with the Meta Ray-Ban glasses which is that nobody can ever tell that you are listening to music or a podcast or an audiobook. I’ve got a very unique-looking dog (Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd mix). We go on long walks around this nearby nature preserve. And just about every person we pass wants to stop and ask me what breed(s) the dog is and because I’m wearing the Meta Ray-Ban glasses and not AirPods they can never tell that I’m in the middle of listening to an audiobook.
The flip side of all that is the convenience of the Meta Ray-Ban glasses and how I can pop on a podcast by tapping the arm of the glasses or take a video on the fly while fishing and record in 1080p at quality that’s significantly better than the iPhone was up until just a few years ago. I’ve all but ditched my regular sunglasses in favor of the transition lenses on the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
