Camille Schmidt’s new single, ‘Stanley,’ is a searing indie rock anthem that captures the poignancy of loneliness and the humor in life’s absurdities, all wrapped in electrifying riffs and fiery vocals.

Drawing inspiration from an overheard conversation on a flight, Schmidt paints a vivid portrait of a woman grappling with unfulfilled expectations in a relationship. The track reflects Schmidt’s signature wit and emotional depth, blending surreal imagery—“I walked the plank I mean I went to the bank”—with raw introspection. Her guitar work is explosive, described as “a blowtorch,” while her lyrics strike with the precision of fireworks against the backdrop of her commanding voice.

Schmidt shares:

“I started thinking about my plane ride the night before. This woman in front of me had been texting a friend about her boyfriend, Stanley (who I later discovered was a few rows behind us). I was thinking about the loneliness you feel when you’re alone, but also the deeper loneliness when you’re with someone, and that person doesn’t fill the hole inside you the way you’d hoped. It was a time when I was searching for comfort in anything – overheard conversations, interactions with strangers, little jokes I would make to myself.”

‘Stanley’ is out now.
