Connie starred alongside Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal in the sequel film, which comes 24 years after the first smash hit movie.

Walking the red carpet, 59-year-old Connie appears to have barely changed since she first played Lucilla in 2000 opposite Russell Crowe.

Speaking about her role as Lucilla, Connie told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year: “She’s both feared by those who are in power, as well as exploited by them as much as they can.

“And so Lucilla was very unusual at the time in the Roman Empire.

“Her life was just constantly up for grabs and endangered all the time.”

She also revealed that returning to the Gladiator film and experiencing the Colosseum again had a huge impact on her.

She explained: “It was a very emotional experience for me.

“I had so many wonderful memories from the time of doing it and it was kind of marvellous to look back and then all of a sudden be there again.

“It was frankly quite mind-boggling to have that experience.”
