Foxx will be telling his story on a Netflix special, with the streamer sharing its first teaser earlier this week.

The special is titled “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…” and is a stand-up comedy show directed by Hamish Hamilton that appears to be Foxx’s way of sharing his story in his own words.

“I’m back!” says Fox in the special. “If I can stay funny, I can stay alive.”

The special premieres this December 10th, on Netflix. The teaser was shared today and shows Foxx addressing a crowded room after showing some of the headlines and news clippings that came out following his health scare.

Foxx discussed the trailer on his social media, revealing that it was shot in Atlanta. “A big shout out to Atlanta you showed up and showed out made me feel at home made me feel safe after 18 years of not being on stage you made it feel like it was just yesterday… can’t wait for everyone to experience the vibe that we had,” he wrote in one of his post’s captions.

“We laughed… we had a few tears… but last, but not least we celebrated life.”

Netflix shared a brief write-up of the show on their website Tudum. “The special comes after Foxx’s 2023 hospitalization, and the Oscar- and Grammy-winning comedy icon sets the record straight with humor and vulnerability, expressing deep gratitude to those who supported his recovery,” it reads.

Foxx has another project lined up on Netflix premiering next year. He’s starring with Cameron Diaz in the awaited action-comedy “Back in Action,” premiering on January 17th.
