Victoria Kjaer Theilvig is this year’s Miss Universe. In the days since the conclusion of the pageant, a lot of emotions have been felt. In the case of Ileana Marquez, this year’s Miss Venezuela, there was some controversy in her round of questions.
After arriving at the Top 5, she answered some questions wrong due to a misinterpretation from the translator. While the moment was unfortunate, Marquez has embraced the moment with diplomacy and seems proud to be the fourth finalist of the competition.
Her friends and fellow contestants have also supported her. Marianela Ancheta, this year’s Miss Cuba, tagged Marquez in a funny meme inspired on the mistranslation.
“The jury: coffee and tea.
The translator: trust yourself.”
Marquez reshared the story and added some laughing crying emojis.
What happened?
After qualifying as one of the top 5 contestants at the Miss Universe, Miss Venezuela had to answer some questions. The jury had prepared the following: “Describe today’s ideal woman and what do you have in common with her?”
According to Marquez, who explained the moment in an interview with the influencer La Divaza, the translator shared a completely different question. “In the first question, she asked me what was the most important thing that had happened to me today,” said Marquez, prompting a gasp from La Divaza.
What did Marquez answer?
Marquez tried her best with what she was given. “Mi ideal moment today was sharing the stage with these 127 women, leaving behind borders, differences and uniting in a message of respect, love, and unity for the world. That’s how you build the world. Thank you,” said Marquez.
Marquez ranked as the fourth finalist while Miss Thailand ranked in third. Taking second and first finalist places were Miss Mexico and Miss Nigeria.
