She added: “And I never thought of myself as an explorer. And when he said, ‘OK, why don’t you take an incredible group of women up?’ I was like, ‘I’m picking all explorers.’ And so that they could come back and tell their story about how going to space changes them.”

The Emmy-winning journalist also recently celebrated a new milestone by publishing her first children’s book, “The Fly Who Flew to Space,” following the story of a mischievous fly who is “bad at school and kind of wanders and gets stuck in a space capsule.”

Sánchez previously shared that the inspiration for the book came almost eight years ago during a flight she piloted with her kids.

“We all started imagining what kind of adventure that tiny little fly was on … flying way above the sky away from its family,” she said, per USA Today. “It sparked this thought about how even the smallest creatures can embark on incredible journeys if they dare to explore.”

“I didn’t really write it, I kind of imagined it,” Sánchez added. “It happened to me.”

Sánchez is facing a lawsuit from her former yoga instructor, Alanna Zabel, who claims the former journalist stole her intellectual property to create her children’s book, “The Fly Who Flew to Space.”

In a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Zabel, an author of seven children’s books, claims she came up with the concept over a decade ago and shared it with Sánchez in confidence.

According to the filing, the instructor accuses Sánchez of using the idea as the foundation for her book without giving proper credit.

Zabel further alleges the move was done out of spite after she resigned as Sánchez’s yoga instructor, citing what she described as “continual and outrageous acts of jealousy.”

The lawsuit includes claims of intellectual property theft, misappropriation of ideas, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
