John Stamos’ bald cap gesture in support of his friend Dave Coulier’s battle with cancer hasn’t landed how the actor likely expected it would, as the former Full House star has been largely criticized for what’s being called a hollow sign of solidarity.

In an Instagram post, John Stamos revealed that in support of his friend and former co-star Dave Coulier — who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma — he had put on a bald cap for what appears to be nothing more than a photo-op.

It should be noted that, obviously, Coulier is in the photo and seems totally happy with what’s happening, which is all that really matters.

“Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro,” the 61-year-old actor wrote on Instagram. “You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way.”

Stamos’ gesture has perhaps not been received as he imagined it would, however, as many of the responses seemed to find the gesture odd if not vapid.

“This is crazy…like you prepped a photoshoot moment, got makeup done and wore a bald cap for your friend battling cancer?” said one viral post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Listen, I read Stamos’ book. He’s not particularly bright. This makes complete sense,” shared one social media user.

“The way Uncle Jessie talked about his hair, it’s not surprising in the least,” added another.

Full House first premiered on ABC in 1987 and ran for eight seasons until 1995. One of the iconic sitcoms of the 1990s, Full House starred the late Bob Saget, John Stamos, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lori Loughlin, Andrea Barber, and Scott Weinger alongside Stamos and Coulier, who described the series as being about a “G-rated dysfunctional family.”

In 2016, a sequel series titled Fuller House premiered on Netflix and ran for five seasons until 2020, with both Stamos and Coulier reprising their roles as Jesse Katsopolis and Joey Gladstone, respectively, in recurring capacities.
