Ryan Reynolds Video Interview About ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Oscar Chances & More

Movie Academy Promotes Jenny Galante To EVP Revenue & Business Development – Deadline

Ryan Reynolds joins me for this week’s edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side, where he details all the twists and turns that led to making Deadpool & Wolverine — including one early idea of turning it all into a Sundance-style indie film. Reynolds discusses some of his other initial ideas, the fears that the character could be Disney-fied after the Mouse House bought Deadpool home 20th Century Fox, and answers the question of whether this is the end of the road for Deadpool movies. He also talks about how and why Hugh Jackman agreed to come back as Wolverine even after the character was killed off in Logan. And Reynolds explains how a prized star cameo wound up on the cutting-room floor.

Reynolds also talks about currently writing a follow-up film, not about Deadpool or Wolverine but with new characters for him and Jackman in a reteaming with their director Shawn Levy. There is much more in store here including his thoughts about past comic book movie attempts he has done like Blade Trinity and Green Lantern, and wanting to reteam with his The Proposal co-star Sandra Bullock.

We also show him some past Ryan Reynolds headlines on Deadline and get him to confirm or deny those stories about the involvement of Madonna and Taylor Swift on Deadpool & Wolverine, and whether there was any truth to the speculation that he and Jackman will be hosting the Oscars in March.

Deadpool & Wolverine became the No. 2 top-grossing movie of 2024 and the No. 1-grossing live-action film of the year. It just began streaming on Disney+ this week.
