Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt returns in the teaser trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the upcoming eighth installment of the M:I film franchise set to open in theaters on May 23rd, 2025.
Alongside Cruise, the film stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simong Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Nick Offerman. Christopher McQuarrie, who’s helmed the last three M:I movies, returns to direct The Final Reckoning.
The Final Reckoning serves as a direct sequel to 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One; the films were originally intended to be shot back to back, but those plans were altered due to the pandemic and SAG-AFTRA strike.
Despite its title, The Final Reckoning is not the final film in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Cruise himself recently expressed a desire to continue making M:I movies until he’s 80 (he’s currently 62 years old).
