Sugadaisy is looking for love… Girlfriends, to be exact.
Comprised of Kentucky natives Zac Littleton and Johny Lovan, the pair have exclusively debuted their new single, “Girlfriend” with Relix. The number buoyantly populates the duo’s lyrically-formed ambition to pull a girl, bound to unwavering rhythm, electric guitar solos, and spacey synth. An anthem for loverboys everywhere, “Girlfriend,” functions as a timely arrival, partly due to the changing weather and implied desire to go from casual summer hook ups to cozy season commitments.
Elevating today’s release, Sugadaisy has added a visual component, unveiling their official music video alongside the sonic arrival. Accentuating their melodic blend of classic rock tendencies, which naturally lean into the Southern indie-pop ether, “Girlfriend” holds space for a dash of sultry spirit fixed to the casual distribution of lyrics, proclamations of “good, good love,” not to mention lead singer Lovan’s hold on a coup of red.
Hip-shaking, sunglass-clad Littleton and Lovan never take themselves too seriously. Instead, they fix their style to a retro gaze, pixelated ’80s-inspired greenscreen. Of the new song, the band shares, “‘Girlfriend’ is a fun little jam we wrote and recorded in a barn that was once home to a family of alpacas and feral cats, about the anticipatory thrill and pain of longing for that special someone.”
“Girlfriends” arrives amid a busy period for Sugadaisy, who has been on the road filling supporting roles for The Heavy Heavy, Deer Tick, Rayland Baxter, Andy Frasco & the U.N. and St. Paul & The Broken Bones while also saving space for festival appearances at SXSW, AMERICANAFEST and other sought after occasions.
