Coldplay fans gasp in shock as Chris Martin takes a nasty fall into open trap door during huge stadium gig

COLDPLAY fans were left shocked last night when frontman Chris Martin fell through an open trap door during a huge sold out show.

The 47-year-old was walking backwards down a runway inside Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium when he took a nasty tumble that drew audible gasps from thousands of fans.

Ever-positive Chris took the incident in his stride, laughing it off by uttering: “That’s not planned.”

He then said: “Thank you for catching me.”

Video footage of the accident shows the singer, in his customary blue T-shirt, plunging from view before awkwardly clambering to his feet.

He’s the latest in a growing list of pop superstars to have fallen foul of production blunders in recent weeks.

Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish have both stacked it in big shows; Rodrigo‘s tumble also took place in Melbourne and was the result of trap door surprise.

Eilish’s gaffe came at Madison Square Garden, New York, and was fortunately obscured from most of the sold out audience.

Earlier in Coldplay’s run Down Under, Martin paid tribute to late cricket legend Shane Warne, who died in 2022.

Dedicating the track Sparks to the legendary spin bowler, he said: “Let’s play this for Shane and his family.

“Our brother, we miss you. Every time we come to Melbourne, it used to be fun to hang out with Shane and all the Warne family.

“I don’t want to talk about it too much or I’ll start to cry.”

Coldplay perform live on QVC

Last month the band’s tenth album Moon Music went straight to number one, becoming the biggest-selling record by a UK act in three years.

The band is on course to become the first UK act to earn more than £1billion by the time they complete their run of gigs next summer.

A source revealed: “Coldplay will be on course to bank £1billion from their Music Of The Spheres tour, which is an incredible feat. The global demand for their live shows is incredible and they sell out every venue.”
