Each week, Consequence rings in New Music Friday by highlighting new albums to stream. We’ve made it to November and there are plenty of great new records to ring in the month.
Among the highlights are Willie Nelson’s 153rd (!) album overall and The Cure’s first in 16 years, along with fresh music from rising artists Thirdface and Thus Love. Plus, enjoy an expanded edition of Weezer’s self-titled debut album for its 30th anniversary, as well as a bright new release from South Korean music collective Balming Tiger.

Balming Tiger – Greatest Hits EP
There’s no other band out there quite like Balming Tiger. These CoSign alums are consistently dedicated to flipping expectations for how pop-adjacent music coming out of South Korea can feel, and their new EP, cheekily titled Greatest Hits, is another great example of their dedication to exploration. A sense of humor is consistent across their work, which means it makes sense to start with the music video for “Big Butt” and go from there.

Illiterate Light – Arches
Virginia duo Illiterate Light have leveled up on their ambitious third album, Arches. They’ve strayed far from the typical trappings of a two-man rock band by adding in psychedelic flourishes, unexpected sonic detours, and vivid, spacious production. For a band who focuses heavily on their innovative live shows, they gave themselves a tall order with Arches — luckily, they’ve got the tunes and conviction to pull it off.

Mount Eerie – Night Palace
Celebrated indie veteran Phil Elverum returns to his Mount Eerie moniker with Night Palace, a sprawling new album that finds the artist exploring his various sonic and thematic interests over the course of 26 new songs. Similar to his acclaimed 2001 effort The Glow Pt. 2, Night Palace is equal parts existential, poetic, and playful. The Cure – Songs of a Lost World
At long last, The Cure have released Songs of a Lost World, their first new album in 16 years. It’s been a long road for the British group, who originally teased Songs of a Lost World back in 2022 and even embarked on a massive tour that year to precede it. The Cure revival will continue, too: Robert Smith recently revealed in an interview that a follow-up to the album is in process.

Thirdface – Ministerial Cafeteria
Tennessee hardcore outfit Thirdface is back with their sophomore album, Ministerial Cafeteria. Out via Exploding in Sound Records, the band offers up an exciting blend of traditional pink, grindcore, and noise rock. In other words, they get loud, fast, and nasty with it.

Thus Love – All Pleasure
The sophomore album from Vermont rockers Thus Love is an investigative foray into stimulation and pleasure, and it’s got enough dopamine to match. Their knotty songs twist and turn into intriguing passages, all tied together by the group’s unique blend of genres and Echo Mars’ versatile voice.

Weezer – Weezer (The Blue Album) 30th Anniversary Edition
Your eyes aren’t deceiving you; it has, in fact, been 30 years since Weezer dropped their self-titled album. After wrapping a tour specifically dedicated to The Blue Album, the celebration continues with a whopping 36 unreleased tracks that can now be enjoyed in streaming and physical formats. Plus, the band was just announced on the lineup for When We Were Young 2025.

Willie Nelson – Last Leaf on the Tree
At the age of 91, country superstar Willie Nelson is still cranking out music with an astonishing 153rd album (including solo studio albums, live records, and collaborative LPs). Last Leaf on the Tree features some new original songs, as well as unique covers of songs by Warren Zevon, Nina Simone, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Neil Young, and more.
