Halloween costumes can get a little out-of-hand. At some point, things went from hockey masks to a guy walking around in a custom latex werewolf head-covering that’s terrifying to children and heavily intoxicated adults alike. And so, one website called DailyPortalZ in Japan holds a contest where subtlety is the goal instead. Costumes aren’t rewarded for expensive makeup and custom accessories, but for perfectly portraying a specific, thoroughly unexciting human.
The entrants? Well, they absolutely came through.
Here are 12 of the best ordinary Halloween costumes from the contest, as translated by Nick Kapur on Twitter.
