The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss looks amazing these days—and she’s proud of her progress. Burruss, 48, shared a picture of herself wearing black leggings and a purple top, posing next to friend Toya Johnson. “Happy birthday @toyajohnson!!!!!! So many great memories that I could post. I hope this year brings lots more happy & fun times for us to remember! Everybody give @toyajohnson some bday love! 🎂🎉🎊,” she captioned the post. Burress is open about what it took to lose the excess weight—here’s how she did it.
Burruss lost 31 pounds through diet, exercise, and taking the supplement Hydroxycut, and is now in the best shape of her life. “I’m feeling myself right now,” she told Essence. “I’m a foodie. My weight has been going up and down for years. I’ve been trying to lose weight, to be honest, for the last year and a half. I had a goal in mind of where I wanted to get to, and I just kept getting further and further away from it “I was tired of being thick. I literally saw somebody post something negative about our outfits. They were like, ‘Why do they always look stuffed?’ I said, ‘Oh no! You are not going to tell me I look stuffed in an outfit ever again!'”
Burruss hasn’t been in the 130-pound range since season two of RHOA. “I was on there for 15 years, ya’ll,” she told Essence. “If you can just imagine for me, this has been a life-changing experience. I never knew I needed it as much as I did until I did it. I think, as women, we kind of get settled in the fact that, ‘Oh, I’m getting older. You’re supposed to gain a few pounds… I think I was kind of falling into that mindset when that’s really not the case.”
Burruss says Ozempic didn’t work for her. “I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight,” she told E! News. “My doctor was like, ‘I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people’. It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal and dessert, okay? It didn’t stop anything for me.”
Burruss loves the Renoj Exercise Workout Bands. “These will have you sweating, OK?” she told E! News. “You don’t always need large weights to workout that will help tone and tighten your muscles. These come in a nice little bag and there are bands with different intensities. There’s nothing like a good resistance band to get toned and to get that sweat going. These seem simple, but they are not easy. They are the perfect workout accessory because they’re small and light. You can keep them at home. You can travel with them. They are just perfection.”
Burruss swears by sleep for health and beauty. “The best self-care is sleep!” she told New Beauty. “I’m always on the go, but if I can get some sleep after a performance, I will. I try not to go out after shows unless something really great is going on… I have three beauty treatments that I love: Eyelash extensions—I like a natural lash look; a facial at Pretty Faces; and last but not least, getting my nails done by my nail tech, Nita aka ‘ImNails.’ therapist. We can talk all day!”
