A TikTok user who goes by the name Visionary Empress wound up in the hospital recently after she attempted to “rebuild” the Lost City of Atlantis on a man’s 20-acre property in West Texas.
Now, before we dive into (no pun intended) it, let’s remember that Atlantis, which was not real, was also stated to be an island paradise. West Texas, meanwhile, is neither an island nor a paradise. So we’re off to a bad start here!
But let’s continue!
In her first TikTok video about the project on Oct. 20, the woman, who has nearly 40,000 followers, explains both the concept and that she will be living in a tent in the Texas desert. She sounds both excited and optimistic about the opportunity.
Days two and three provided us with similar videos, including one where she states that she does “conscious language upgrades” for a living. Sure.
On October 23, Visionary Empress and an unnamed man with her in the video visit their new neighbor Mike, who advises them to get a pet lion.
We would not suggest getting a pet lion.
But that’s when things went off the rails. On Oct. 26, Visionary Empress posted a video from a hospital bed and stated that she was in the ER.
In the video, she explained that on Oct. 25, she “got back” from her new home and went to her sister’s house to help with a birthday party for her sister’s 1-year-old child.
She claims that while there, she contracted norovirus. The norovirus then accelerated the already dangerous levels of dehydration she experienced because she was living in the desert.
“(I) became so severely dehydrated that I just can’t keep any liquid down and I’m so, so thirsty,,” she says. “So I’m here at the ER trying to get some fluid, trying to get some enzymes and stuff checked out, make sure that all my levels are good so that I’m healthy enough to go back to Rebuilding Atlantis and I will keep you guys up to date.”
As it turns out, the new Atlantis does not have a hospital. It also does not have proper medical supplies or adequate drinking water.
We’re no experts. But you’d think that would be the first part of building a new civilization. Also, as a self-proclaimed visionary, you’d think she’d have seen this coming.
She did eventually leave the hospital, but not for Rebuilding Atlantis.
In her latest video, posted Tuesday, she states that she’s in Dallas while attending family events. She also states that she’ll return to Rebuilding Atlantis on Nov. 3.
We’re not sure if that really counts as living at Rebuilding Atlantis. Either way, it doesn’t seem like the smartest idea. But maybe she’ll bring a pallet of water or two with her this time around.
