Stevie Nicks Gave Lindsey Buckingham "300 Million Chances"

Even Christine McVie’s death wasn’t enough for a reconciliation between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Nicks shared that speaking to her former Fleetwood Mac bandmate and ex-boyfriend during McVie’s celebration of life for a few minutes was as much as she could stand.

Nicks revealed the event was held at Nobu, and added that it felt like McVie was there because there was a “crazy” hurricane that “tore down” the entire deck. “The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes,” she said.

“I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could,” Nicks added. “You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.”

To make things crystal clear, Nicks confirmed a proper Fleetwood Mac farewell tour is out of the question with a simple “no.” This echoes a sentiment she expressed this summer by saying, “Without Christine, no can do.”

Despite their differences, Nicks wishes the best for Buckingham. “I hope he lives a long life and continues to go into a studio and work with other people,” she said. “He’s also an icon, and he can teach people. He’s not stopped in his tracks. He can still make music and have fun.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Nicks said she realized that Buckingham needed to be fired from Fleetwood Mac when they played a 2018 MusiCares benefit concert. “I didn’t even tell anybody it had happened in my head until the whole ceremony was over,” Nicks explained.

“I took with me that night a song that I had done with LeAnn Rimes called ‘Borrowed,’” she remembered. “I took it with me to play for him because I thought we could do this song beautifully. That’s when he wasn’t very nice to anybody; he wasn’t very nice to Harry Styles.”

Nicks continued, “I could hear my mom saying, ‘Are you really going to spend the next 15 years of your life with this man?’ I could hear my very pragmatic father — and by the way, my mom and dad liked Lindsey a lot — saying, ‘It’s time for you guys to get a divorce.’ Between those two, I said, ‘I’m done.’”

At this time, Nicks only has one show on the books for 2025: a co-headlining date with Billy Joel at Detroit’s Ford Field on March 29th. Look for deals or sold-out tickets here.
